Markus Bieswanger (University of Bayreuth, Germany) Markus Bieswanger is Professor of English Linguistics at the University of Bayreuth (Germany), Head of the Scientific Steering Committee of the University of Bayreuth, University Language Center (which offers courses and proficiency assessment in more than 20 languages), and Vice President of the International Association of Applied Linguisics (AILA). Among his various research areas is a long-standing and well-documented interest in Aviation English, including language teaching, learning and testing, the use of English as a lingua franca, aspects of intercultural communication in aviation contexts, and the investigation of language and communication as a human factor in aviation incidents and accidents. He is the organizer and one of the convenors of the AILA Research Network Applied Linguistics and Aviation English(es). His latest article on “World Englishes, Applied Linguistics, and Air Traffic Control Communication” was published in World Englishes (2026), and a chapter on “Language in Aviation”, written with Malila Prado, is scheduled to appear in the third edition of the authoritative International Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics in June 2026. |

Shawn Loewen (Michigan State University, USA) Shawn Loewen (PhD, University of Auckland) is Professor in the Second Language Studies and MA TESOL programs at Michigan State University. His research interests include: instructed second language acquisition, technology and instructed second language acquisition, second language interaction, quantitative research methodology. In addition to publishing in leading SLA journals, he has authored several books. The most recent is the Second Edition of Introduction to Instructed Second Language Acquisition (2020). He also co-edited The Routledge Handbook of Instructed Second Language Acquisition (2017) and Evidence-based second language pedagogy: A collection of instructed second language acquisition studies (2019) with Masatoshi Sato. He is the Associate Editor of The Modern Language Journal. |

Hossein Nassaji (University of Victoria, Canada) Hossein Nassaji is Professor of Applied Linguistics in the School of Languages, Linguistics, and Cultures. He specializes in second language acquisition, with a focus on corrective feedback, form-focused instruction, task-based teaching, classroom discourse, and the application of sociocultural theories to language pedagogy. He also maintains active research interests in L2 reading processes, lexical inferencing, and the acquisition of L2 vocabulary. His current research focuses on the role of interactional feedback and instructed second language acquisition, involving both experimental/quantitative and descriptive/qualitative research. |

Glenn Stockwell (The Education University of Hong Kong, China) Professor Glenn Stockwell specialises in computer-assisted language learning (CALL), mobile-assisted language learning (MALL), and the integration of new technologies into second language education. Professor Stockwell is Editor-in-Chief of Computer Assisted Language Learning (EIC 2024–present; Associate Editor 2009–2023), one of the world’s top-ranked journals in applied linguistics and education (2024 rankings: 1/297 in Linguistics; 9/756 in Education & Educational Research). He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Journal of Applied Linguistics; Founding Editor-in-Chief (2005–2023) and now Honorary Editor of The JALT CALL Journal; and serves on the editorial boards of both the CALICO Journal and ReCALL. Through these leadership roles, he has guided the field’s publishing standards, mentored early-career researchers, and shaped the direction of CALL and applied linguistics research globally. |

Jinfen Xu (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China) Professor Xu’s main research interests are foreign language education, second language acquisition, independent learning and teacher development. She has presided over the National Social Science Fund of China (3 projects), the Ministry of Education of Humanities and Social Science Fund, National Education Sciences Planning and more than 20 important topics at or above the provincial and ministerial levels. Also, she has published more than 150 papers on SSCI and CSSCI journals, 26 textbooks and monographs, and she serves as an editorial board member of System and Language Teaching Research of Q1 on SSCI and an external review expert of several SSCI and CSSCI foreign language core journals. In addition, she is an evaluation expert of the National Social Science Fund of China and the Ministry of Education of Humanities and Social Science Fund. |

Jiajin Xu (Beijing Foreign Studies University, China) Jiajin Xu is Professor of Linguistics at the National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education and the Artificial Intelligence and Human Languages Lab at Beijing Foreign Studies University. He also serves as Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Corpus Linguistics. His research interests include corpus linguistics, discourse studies, second language acquisition, contrastive linguistics, and translation studies. He has published extensively in international journals, including Across Languages and Cultures, Corpora, Corpus Linguistics and Linguistic Theory, International Journal of Applied Linguistics, International Journal of Corpus Linguistics, Language Sciences, and Lingua. Over the past decade, he has developed more than 20 corpora and currently maintains the BFSU CQPweb Multilingual Corpus Portal, which hosts over 150 corpora covering more than 40 languages. |

Isaiah WonHo Yoo (Sogang University, Republic of Korea) Isaiah WonHo Yoo is Professor of Applied Linguistics and TESOL in the Division of English at Sogang University (Republic of Korea). His research interests include corpus linguistics, corpus-informed language pedagogy, pedagogical grammar and pronunciation, and academic writing, with additional work on how definiteness is expressed across languages (e.g., English and East Asian languages). |
